Description

Special Notes and species info all listed here. Please read, the info can be quite useful :3

1 - Resident Aqrion - All Residents have the basic nature element. They can grow and repair their vast forest of kelps which the species relies very heavily on to survive.

2 - Polars Aqrion - All Polars have the basic water element. They use it for traveling swiftly throughout the ice, as well as to reshape the ice to form their homes.

3 - Deep-Sea Aqrion - All Deep-Sea have the basic light element. This is most often shown through bio-luminescence, lighting up their fins or strips/spots along their bodies to easily navigate the trenches as well as a hunting strategy.

4 - Rift Aqrion - All Rift Aqrion have the basic fire element. They use this element as a form of survival. They are incapable of surviving in colder waters, using the fire element to keep themselves warm all times. Due to their volcanic habitat they also resist burns, though that doesnt mean they can frolic in the lava.

5 - River Aqrion -  All River Aqrion have the basic air element.  This is mostly used to make themselves lighter, faster and more agile while on land.

Residents:
*Weight: Male = 6,000-8,000lbs    Female = 4,500-6,500lbs
 *Length: Male = 20-26ft  Female = 18-23ft

The most distinct feature of the Resident aqrions are their larger size and massive fins.   They weight the same as the Polars but are slimmer built and noticeably larger. Their bodys are very agile and strong.  They are capable of holding objects with their tails.  These aqrions live around the warmer waters of the kelp forests.  Food here is plentiful and varies greatly, keeping aqrions happy with the variety and allowing them to grow to massive sizes.   All colours and patterns occur, the fin spines are almost always striped.  This helps blend in with the kelps beds, even though they have bright colours.

With these larger sizes, a group of around 5 Resident aqrions are capable of fighting and taking down a single giant squid.  Aqrions rather enjoy the taste of giant squids, taking one of these down is always a reward.   Especially after the squids vicious and frequent attacks.

After a few years of moving to the south a few of the larger aqrions decided to stay in the warmer waters of the kelp forest. Year after year more and more continued to stay in the warmer waters and grew to much larger sizes.  The giant squids had moved to more open waters leaving the kelp beds safer to live in.  Over time these initial aqrion decided to build a wall around the warmest and shallowest area for protection from storms and giant squid threats.  This enclosed area was open to all aqrions laying eggs and raising their young pups.  Once this was created aqrion started to live longer and learned other trades other than just hunting.  They learned to create buildings, armor, weapons, art forms such as rock and ice sculpting, or glass making.  Others learned to create medicines, learned how to heal injuries and sickness.  Others learned how to heal and regrow the planet.

Polar Aqrion:
* Weight: Male = 6,000-8,000lbs Female = 4,500-6,500lbs
* Length: Male = 18-22ft Female = 15-20ft

The Polar aqrions are well muscled and heavily built. These are smaller sized aqrion, however they do weigh the same as the Resident aqrions. They have a shorter tails and limbs, their fins are also shorter, preventing heat loss. They have thicker scales than the other aqrion types. The scales are especially thick over the back and top of the head, tail and limbs. The thicker hides and heavier build help keep them warm in the colder waters of the north or south. Polars also have a shorter and stouter face. Horns are common on Polars, most commonly on the top of the head, but can also appear along the top of the tail, along the shoulders and limbs as well as under the jaw line. Not all polars have horns, others may have plenty of horns, while a few only have a single or two horns (these single or two horns will almost always be on the head). Example of typical horn layout is shown on the picture above. This example has an extreme amount of horns, (I'm missing horns along the top of tail, darnit! ). Some Polars may not have any horns at all.

The polar aqrions closely resemble their ancestors. They have not changed too much over time and retain the horns. The horns were used by their ancestors as weapons of defense as well as when attacking. The ancestors were much smaller than current aqrion sizes. The giant squids were a huge threat, the ancestor aqrions of the time were too small and incapable of surviving a fight with these. This huge threat pushed the ancestor aqrion towards the southern waters were the squids rarely traveled. Over time they had used the horns effectively to smash through the ice. The waters were too cold for the squids so cold water fishes, like salmon, were abundant and the aqrion grew to larger sizes like today.

The polars also retained a similar tail structure as their ancestors, often resembling whale like flukes that vary in shape and size between individuals. The tails are very strong and are the main swim source. The tails have horns along the top ridge of the tail which are often used to smash ice or predators in battle. The Polars often have resident style tails as well. This tends to be the most common appearance.

Polar aqrions still needed to lay their eggs and raise their young in warmer waters as the pups were not strong enough and their scales haven't developed enough to survive the cold waters. The polars would travel to the warmer waters of the thick kelp forests where they laid their eggs. The thicker kelps helped conceal the aqrion and their pups until they could head back to the south. Because the water was shallower in these warm waters, storms above the sea would affect the water below, causing massive currents that could easily push aqrions around. They learned that if they curl their tails and hold onto the base of the kelps that they could stay hidden and not get injured during the storms.

Deep-Sea Aqrions:
*Weight: Male = 4,500-7,000lbs Female = 4,000-6,000lbs
*Length: Male = 18-25ft Female = 15-22ft

Deep-Sea aqrions are a much slimmer and longer build than the polars. When the ancestor aqrions abandoned the northern waters, not all of the aqrions went to the south. These aqrion traveled to deeper waters in the trenches near the southern end. They couldn't see well at first in the darker waters, they quickly developed sonar and bio-luminescence along their bodies/fins to navigate the darker waters and trenches. They tend to have dark colours with bright and flashy spots or stripes, dark blues and black being common with turquoise, green or blueish spots, all colours still occur.  These deep waters were not nearly as cold as the far south enabling these aqrions to have slimmer and more agile bodies. They enjoy feeding on smaller critters such as eels, crabs, and other small fish.

Due to the deeper waters of the trenches, the water is not disturbed by the storms. Deep-Seas did not need to hold onto something from being tossed around in the water, therefore their tails did not become dexterous like the Residents, the tail fins did not become refined and fancy like theirs either.

At first the Deep-Seas did not need to go to shallower waters to lay eggs and raise their young, becoming isolated from the other two species. Due to them hatching their eggs and raising their young in colder waters they grew slower and remained smaller. High pup death rate was very common. Some eggs never hatch.
Currently almost all Deep-Sea Aqrion travel to the Hatchery to lay eggs and raise young pups.

Rift Aqrion:
*Weight: Male = 5,000-7-000lbs Female = 3,500-5,500lbs
*Length: Male = 20-26ft Female = 18-23ft

Rifts are slightly smaller and slimmer than the Residents. They have the body shape of the Deep-Sea aqrions. These guys most noticeable trait is the incredibly fancy fins that they have. These are a minimum of 3 different colours and can have up to 10 different colours on them. The fins are large much like the Resident's fins.

These guys have purple coloured flesh, both their tongues and gums are purple as well. They will almost always have black and/or white on them, whether it be body colour or markings. The most common colours are reds, oranges, and blues but they can have any number of colours.

This species was originally part of the Deep-Sea colonies, were they grew and lived into what appears as today's Deep-Sea colonies. A small group decided they didn't believe the myths that the rift volcanoes and surrounding area would kill an aqrion immediately (which is true), explorers and adventurers as they were, they left in the rift's direction unaware of what to expect. They never did return home and most thought they had died. Quite a few did die but a select few survived, aqrion with the fire and energy element were the only ones to survive.

They had learned to use their fire and energy elements together to create shields to survive the heats and varying energy levels. Food was abundant here, particularly these jellyfishes and other odd creatures, oddly enough all adapted to surviving the heat.

Over several years they had children, each generation became more and more resistant to the heat. Now, in todays generation's, Rift aqrions have the fire element and are heat resistant. They also learn another element just like the other aqrion types.

Rift aqrion rarely venture into the other aqrions territories, food is abundant and no fighting occurs. Vox's father was the first to venture out. Noone new he was a Rift aqrion. He generally stayed in the Deep-Sea colony he lived in and didn't travel far. Vox was the first to head towards the Hatchery, making the appearance of the Rift aqrion known. Only thing was she didn't know that she was a Rift aqrion. Rumors start of the demi-god like aqrions like her that live in far away and secret places. As more Rift aqrion come out of their home land the more Lymphona learns of their existence. Current age Rift Aqrion are starting to pop around the planet. Though most other Aqrion species cant venture to the volcanic rifts as it will still seriously harm them.

Rift aqrion take pride in the masks that they craft. When they hit their graduating age they begin a study of mask crafting for their ceremonies and other special occasions. These masks are crafted from the volcanic rock around them. The masks are supposed to be meaningful to them as they craft them, each mask is different, no two are the same. Rift aqrion don't have to wear their masks all the time, but they often do. The mask is a symbol of pride, honor, and respect, especially towards their elders. In their spare time or during sleep its common for them to not wear the mask.

River Aqrion:
* Weight:  Male = 2,000-2,500lbs    Female = 1,500-2,000lbs
*Length:  Male = 12-15ft   Female = 10-13ft

River Aqrion are very tiny compared to all other subspecies.  This is due to the fact that they live in most large river systems on Lymphona.  All river Aqrion have the basic air element.  This is used mostly on land to help make them lighter and give them bursts of speed.  Often used underwater to stun fish with bursts of air.  Their most common body colours include all shades of greens and yellows, all colours still occur.

These tiny aqrion are descendants of the ancient aqrion (which currently is the polar).  These guys instead of fleeing south to warm waters or deep waters, they have chosen to run upriver of the large islands.

These petite Aqrion spend most of their time in the water, but they do venture on land quite frequently, and not just to sunbathe or play in the sand.  These Aqrion lack belly fins unlike the other subspecies.  This is due to spending a fair amount of time on land.  They tend to drag their bellies and tails along the surfaces, much like a crocodile, as their flippers aren't quite strong enough to support their full body weight This would have injured the fins they had when they first arrived up-rivers. This resulted in a very painful loss of their fins creating very painful infections,  which would often result in death.

They also have large heavy flippers with large claws on the end.  These fins are very similar to crocodile's or turtle's legs.  They are dexterous and mostly used for digging both in and out of water.  They dig burrows in the river banks, creating small water caves and caverns to live and sleep in.  This habitats keeps them safe during the night from any other predators, or large birds who always love to peck on their fins.

The underside of their tail, near the end, is fairly flattened.  This helps them to swim in the river currents.  It also helps them hunt on land.  They push off with their tails and then run on their flipper, the flatten tailed helps them keep pushing along the soil.  They try not to use their tails inland where its rocky and has fallen tree branches.  Looks much like a crocodile leaping out of the water.

I feel like maybe another subspecies of the aqrions like all of these above could have ones without the spikes and just like the fin part, I feel like the spikes are really hard to draw XD
